Graduate Admissions Assistant Sandy Matthews is retiring from the University of Delaware after 27 years of service on October 1. Beginning her career at the Institute for Energy Conversion and the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, Sandy has spent the last 20+ years dedicating herself to graduate education at UD.
A fixture within the Admissions Office of the Graduate College, Sandy has helped countless applicants begin their journeys to graduate programs and has advised graduate directors and staff on UD admissions policies and standards. “Sandy has been an integral piece of our Graduate Admissions team since I arrived. I have always been able to count on her expertise and her ability to engage the team to keep our operation running flawlessly,” said Michael Alexo, director of Graduate Admissions & Enrollment.
Sandy was previously the choir director at Bethel Lutheran Church in North East, Md. for 20 years and has been the keyboardist for the past 7 years. Sandy says, “My time at UD has been very valuable, and I will miss all of the many people whom I’ve worked with–graduate students, co-workers, program directors and administrators.”
Her life after UD will be spent boating, traveling, participating in church activities and spending time with her family, which includes six grandchildren, three children and her husband Bill.
