UD currently offers 60 doctoral and 144 master’s degree programs. Of these programs 16 are dual degrees, 14 interdisciplinary and 20 on-line. Other options include an avenue to complete a traditional four-year bachelor’s program plus a master’s program in one addition year, known as a 4+1 degree (25 are currently available) and 31 certificate programs across our seven colleges and more than 82 research centers and institutes. UD is one of the top 100 institutions for federal obligations in science and engineering and interdisciplinary initiatives in energy science and policy, the environment and in human health.

Offers studies in the history of art from ancient to modern times, with special concentrations in American art and in European art from the Renaissance through the modern eras.

Art History for Museum Professionals BA/MA, 4+1
ADMITTANCE STATUS: This program only accepts UD students

The MA in Art History for Museum Professional is open only to UD Art History Majors. The program integrates the requirements of the MA in Art History and the certificate in Museum Studies within one accelerated plan offering both in-depth art historical education and museum training.

Childhood Education in Languages, Literatures and Cultures MA, 4+1

An interdisciplinary program to prepare candidates with the knowledge and skills needed to teach effectively in the dual language immersion classroom in the areas of linguistic and cultural proficiency, as well as teaching methodology.

Current UD undergraduate students can be considered for admission to the 4+1 BS in Early Childhood Education/MA in Childhood Education in Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.

English PhD

Offers a range of courses in English, American and Anglophone literature, literacy theory, cultural studies, film studies, theatre history, rhetoric and composition, and the history of the English language.

Entrepreneurship & Innovation Certificate CERT

The graduate certificate program in entrepreneurship and innovation at the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics allows working professionals to develop the entrepreneurial mindset, influence, skills and understanding needed to bring new ideas to the marketplace.

Fashion and Apparel Studies MS, 4+1, CERT

An international focus and emphasis on understanding design, theory, and research as they relate to fashion phenomena.

Current UD undergraduate students can be considered for admission to the 4+1 BS in Fashion Merchandising/MS in Fashion and Apparel Studies. A Certificate in Socially Responsible and Sustainable Apparel Business is also offered.

Liberal Studies MA

The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) degree offers interdisciplinary graduate study centered in the humanities and social sciences. Within the broad parameters of the program, students shape their course of study to suit their intellectual interests and follow their passions. Small seminar classes explore important questions from a variety of perspectives in a stimulating and dynamic learning environment. The degree is designed to be completed on a part-time basis.

The Marine Policy Program examines the economic, legal, political, and social aspects of the world ocean, the seabed, and the coastal zone.

The graduate certificate in Minerals, Materials and Society is designed for mid-career professionals in industry, government and civil society working across mineral and extractive supply chains. The program takes an interdisciplinary and industrial ecology approach with attention to key skills needed to evaluate the environmental and social impacts of the sector.

MPA (Public Administration) MPA, BA/MPA, 4+1

The MPA program contributes directly to solutions to public challenges of our times through research and public service projects that involve students in experiential learning. The program also seeks to develop relationships with practitioners, fostering a professional focus and approach to public administration and non-profit management and furthering the values of the field.

Traditional master’s degree students can complete the MPA program in 2 years of full time study. Part-time and online options are also available. Current UD undergraduates can be considered for admission to the 4+1 BA in Public Policy/MPA or the 4+1 BS in Organizational & Community Leadership/MPA. MPH in Health Policy and Management MPH

​The Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy and Management is designed to prepare students for a career in health policy in either applied (e.g., healthcare institutions, nonprofits, and local, state, or federal agencies) or research settings. Preservation Studies PhD

An interdisciplinary doctoral course of study that teaches the philosophies, research methodologies, and policies informing preservation efforts focused on art, architecture, landscapes, and material culture.

Psychological and Brain Sciences Certificates CERT

Psychological and Brain Sciences students may structure their elective coursework such that they are recognized for additional specialized study that cuts across Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical Science, Cognitive Psychology, and Social Psychology. We currently offer three such certificates: Developmental Processes, Quantitative Analysis, and Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. The certificate programs are open to any current graduate student in any program at the University of Delaware.

These certificates are only available to any current graduate student in any program at the University of Delaware.

When applying to complete a certificate, students should: Fill out their Plan of Study (Psych Forms > Grad Student Form > Plan of Study) and send it electronically to the Director of Graduate Education.

School Psychology EdS, MA

Following the of the National Association of School Psychologists, the program leads to certification as a school psychologist.

The EdS is a combined MA/EdS program.

Students who qualify for an assistantship will receive a minimum stipend of $20,000 for the 9-month academic year (2019-2020), a tuition scholarship award that provides a reduced rate for master’s students equivalent to the Delaware resident rate, and a reduced-cost medical insurance plan provided by the University.

Strategic Leadership Certificate CERT

Strategic leadership goes beyond managing others, encompassing all of the skills and capacities needed to navigate the complex analytical and human dimensions inherent in any leadership role.

The graduate certificate program in strategic leadership at the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics allows working professionals to build their leadership mindset and skillset to better manage individuals, teams and organizations. Students take the same courses offered in the Lerner MBA and learn how to effectively lead and influence others, build teams and support networks, manage change and set strategic organizational direction.

Both professionals who have previously earned an MBA and those who wish to develop specialized expertise to advance or redirect their career will benefit from this program.

Winterthur Program in American Material Culture MA

A multidisciplinary approach to the study of American decorative arts and material culture–the history and philosophy of people and their things. The Program is a cooperative effort of the Winterthur Museum, Garden, & Library and the University of Delaware.

Traditional Degrees

There are major categories of degrees available for Graduate level studies at the University of Delaware that include master’s and doctoral degrees. Earning one of these degrees can take 2-8 years, depending on the level of the degree and field of study.

Dual Degrees

The University of Delaware offers students the opportunity to simultaneously complete more than one graduate level degree. Important features include:

The program guidelines for dual degree programs identify the number of credits required for the combined degree. However, the general standard is that completing a combined program results in fewer number of credits required than if each degree was completed as a separate degree.

To be eligible for a dual degree, both degrees must be awarded simultaneously as the total number of credits required is based on the program guidelines for the dual degree.

4+1 Degrees

Undergraduate UD students have the opportunity to complete a traditional four-year bachelor’s program plus a master’s program in one additional (+1) year.

Application deadlines are based on the current year/level of the UD student as they must apply no later than their Junior year (allowing for overlap of graduate and undergraduate coursework during their senior year).

University of Delaware offers practical, concentrated study in a specific professional area to help you change careers, explore a new field, gain credentials, and acquire practical new skills and knowledge.

 

Partnerships

The University of Delaware and Thomas Jefferson University offer a reciprocal graduate enrollment program. Full-time graduate students at each institution can attend classes at the partner school at no cost.
