UD currently offers 60 doctoral and 145 master’s degree programs. Of these programs 16 are dual degrees, 14 interdisciplinary and 20 on-line. Other options include an avenue to complete a traditional four-year bachelor’s program plus a master’s program in one addition year, known as a 4+1 degree (26 are currently available) and 35 certificate programs across our seven colleges and more than 82 research centers and institutes. UD is one of the top 100 institutions for federal obligations in science and engineering and interdisciplinary initiatives in energy science and policy, the environment and in human health.

Graduate and Certificate Programs (17 Entries) in the Arts

Africana Studies MA, 4+1, CERT

MA, BA/MA and Graduate Certificate in Africana Studies. The BA/MA (4+1) is open only to UD Africana Studies Majors and Minors. A certificate in Africana Studies is available to current graduate students and community members.

Art Conservation MS

A three-year interdisciplinary curriculum  designed to educate and train conservation professionals who can carry out the examination, stabilization and treatment of art and artifacts.

Art History PhD, MA

Offers studies in the history of art from ancient to modern times, with special concentrations in American art and in European art from the Renaissance through the modern eras.

Art History for Museum Professionals BA/MA, 4+1
ADMITTANCE STATUS: This program only accepts UD students

The MA in Art History for Museum Professional is open only to UD Art History Majors. The program integrates the requirements of the MA in Art History and the certificate in Museum Studies within one accelerated plan offering both in-depth art historical education and museum training.

Childhood Education in Languages, Literatures and Cultures MA, 4+1

An interdisciplinary program to prepare candidates with the knowledge and skills needed to teach effectively in the dual language immersion classroom in the areas of linguistic and cultural proficiency, as well as teaching methodology.

Current UD undergraduate students can be considered for admission to the 4+1 BS in Early Childhood Education/MA in Childhood Education in Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.

English PhD

Offers a range of courses in English, American and Anglophone literature, literacy theory, cultural studies, film studies, theatre history, rhetoric and composition, and the history of the English language.

Entrepreneurship & Innovation Certificate CERT

The graduate certificate program in entrepreneurship and innovation at the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics allows working professionals to develop the entrepreneurial mindset, influence, skills and understanding needed to bring new ideas to the marketplace.

Fashion and Apparel Studies MS, 4+1, CERT

An international focus and emphasis on understanding design, theory, and research as they relate to fashion phenomena.

Current UD undergraduate students can be considered for admission to the 4+1 BS in Fashion Merchandising/MS in Fashion and Apparel Studies. A Certificate in Socially Responsible and Sustainable Apparel Business is also offered.

Nonprofit and Voluntary Action CERT

This standalone certificate program provides useful knowledge and practical skill-building for students in any field who want to advance their careers in the nonprofit and/or public sector.

Performing Arts Certificate CERT

A certificate program for individuals seeking to develop their musical performance skills as they participate in the Department of Music’s ensembles. Open to individuals with a baccalaureate degree in music performance.

Program Types

Graduate program options abound at the University of Delaware. Our options include dual degrees, 4+1 degrees, certificate programs, interdisciplinary programs, on-line, pathways and learning partnerships. Learn more about these designations below to as you explore our programs.

 

Traditional Degrees

There are major categories of degrees available for Graduate level studies at the University of Delaware that include master’s and doctoral degrees. Earning one of these degrees can take 2-8 years, depending on the level of the degree and field of study.

Dual Degrees

The University of Delaware offers students the opportunity to simultaneously complete more than one graduate level degree. Important features include:

The program guidelines for dual degree programs identify the number of credits required for the combined degree. However, the general standard is that completing a combined program results in fewer number of credits required than if each degree was completed as a separate degree.

To be eligible for a dual degree, both degrees must be awarded simultaneously as the total number of credits required is based on the program guidelines for the dual degree.

4+1 Degrees

Undergraduate UD students have the opportunity to complete a traditional four-year bachelor’s program plus a master’s program in one additional (+1) year.

Application deadlines are based on the current year/level of the UD student as they must apply no later than their Junior year (allowing for overlap of graduate and undergraduate coursework during their senior year).

University of Delaware offers practical, concentrated study in a specific professional area to help you change careers, explore a new field, gain credentials, and acquire practical new skills and knowledge.

 

Partnerships

The University of Delaware and Thomas Jefferson University offer a reciprocal graduate enrollment program. Full-time graduate students at each institution can attend classes at the partner school at no cost.

Full-time matriculated graduate students at the University of Delaware and Thomas Jefferson University are eligible for this program.A completed permission form for reciprocal registration between University of Delaware and Thomas Jefferson University must be submitted to the coordinator at your home institution:
