PROGRAM: Public Policy
  1. It is interesting to note that I first role on both an airplane and a train at the age of 28. Can you imagine, those were the scariest moments of my travels, and thanks to the Netherlands for such a wonderful and exciting exposure.
  2. The achievements I am must proud of are earning an MSc in Economics and being admitted to the University of Delaware to pursue graduate studies in Public Policy. They are remarkable achievements considering my challenging economic background.
  3. When I was age 16, I lost my Mom and Dad due to snake bike and trauma respectively. It was then the start of a long series of challenges I must overcome  because from that moment on I stand alone and must take care of my brothers and sisters. Conditions forced me to be a man even though I was actually a boy. So, Philosophically, I became a man when I was a boy.
  4. Growing up as an orphan, I couldn’t distinguish Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Supper since I could barely afford daily meal, and as that result I coincidentally ate only once a day. So, I actually and clearly understand both the theoretical and practical meanings of poverty. I see education as a way for the elimination of poverty and for a sustainable life. I wish to acquire a PhD as I look forward to being a Development and Environmental Policy Specialist.
  5. Growing up as an orphan, I couldn’t distinguish Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Supper since I could barely afford food and as that result I ate only once a day. So, I actually understand both the theoretical and practical meanings of poverty.
  6. My parents worked as health practitioners before their demise. As a midwife, my mother hurried to such a situation where a woman was about to deliver her baby. My mother assisted and the lady gave birth safely. The baby mother was abandoned by her boyfriend and family members for unspecified reasons, and as such she couldn’t afford baby material. My late mother decided kindheartedly to bring some supplies that every new baby mother would need but on the way back fate unmercifully strike her and out of nothing a venomous snake bite her. Since the village was so isolated, the necessary help against the poisoning was not available and several hours later she passed away. This was one of the reasons I am so passionate about public policy since it deals with wide-range of issues such as: health, education, Environment, law, psychology, sociology, political science and others.
  7. Even though I am risk averse, but at some point of my life I became a risk seeker. For instance, in pursuance of my undergraduate studies, I left my hometown and traveled to the capital of Liberia, Monrovia with no prior knowledge where I would stay. In the quest for education, I sold and slept in the streets of Monrovia for several months and later got robbed of my business by some arm robbers since I was exposed and vulnerable with no dwelling place. In spite of the difficulties, I maneuvered to complete my undergraduate program.
  8. My late mother had the greatest influence on the person I am. My father encouraged me to study medicine while my mother was mostly interested in me pursuing my own dream. She once said, ” My son, pursue any discipline that would help you make a positive impact in society, and that would make you successful in life”. May her soul rest in peace!
